In an office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) program, clients receive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction within a primary care setting. This allows the client to receive care at their convenience while keeping up with daily responsibilities.
OBOT programs are authorized to use the medications Buprenorphine (common brand name Subutex), Buprenorphine/Naloxone (common brand name Suboxone), and Naltrexone (common brand name Vivitrol) as part of medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
Buprenorphine helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms in individuals with opioid use disorder. Naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medication, helps reduce the likelihood of abusing Buprenorphine; this is why the two are sometimes combined. Naltrexone is used to treat addiction to opioids and alcohol by blocking their euphoric effects.
How Does an OBOT Program Work?
According to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities (CARF), OBOT programs include both MAT and other medical and psychosocial interventions. Our OBOT program provides individual and group therapy, telehealth services, and case management. We know that addiction affects every part of you or your loved one’s life, so we offer extra support in addition to medication. We help you get your life back on track.
Physicians who provide OBOT must have a DATA-200 waiver, which allows them to provide outpatient MAT outside of an Outpatient Treatment Program (OTP). All physicians offering OBOT also need to complete training.
Our clinicians provide support in addition to medication and connect clients to other appropriate resources as needed. We have an extensive network of referral sources that can meet each client’s unique needs. Our goal is to make sure you or your loved one’s care is well-rounded and they have all they need to recover.
What are the Benefits of an Office-Based Opioid Treatment Program?
OBOT programs reduce barriers to treatment. People who, for one reason or another, cannot attend traditional treatment can access care through an OBOT program.
Due to the stigma around drug addiction, individuals with opioid use disorder may be ashamed to seek help. OBOT programs reduce stigma by regarding opioid addiction as any other medical condition that would be treated in a primary care setting. MAT is considered a medical necessity for individuals with opioid addiction, just as insulin would be considered a medical necessity for those with diabetes.
Our OBOT program also provides therapy services to help clients address the underlying reasons they started using drugs. This is a comprehensive approach to treatment that helps heal both the mind and the body, and sets clients up for success in long-term recovery.
How Do You Know if an OBOT Program is Right for You?
If you are struggling with addiction to opioids and want to break free, but have daily obligations you can’t step away from, our OBOT program is a great fit for you. In an OBOT program, you receive treatment on your time, so you can still fulfill your professional, academic, or other responsibilities.
Medication-assisted treatment helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms so you can focus on recovery. Our outpatient individual and group therapy help you address the underlying causes of your addiction, which helps you heal and build towards long-term recovery. We also offer telehealth, allowing you to maintain your care at home.
